Wade Istchenko a été élu pour la première fois lors des élections générales de la 33^e Assemblée législative du Yukon, tenues le 11 octobre 2011. Il a été réélu le 7 novembre 2016 aux élections générales de la 34^e Assemblée législative, puis à celles de la 35^e Assemblée législative, tenues le 12 avril 2021.

Le 21 septembre 2021, il a été annoncé que Wade Istchenko serait porte-parole du Parti du Yukon pour le ministère de l’Environnement.

Au cours de la 34^e Assemblée législative, il a fait partie du Comité permanent des comptes publics. Pendant le mandat de la 33^e Assemblée législative, il avait été nommé au Comité permanent des textes réglementaires.
